Kingfisher court is an innovative state of the art mental health facility, constructed on the Kingsley Green site in Radlett for the Hertfordshire NHS Trust at a cost of £42m.
The design of Kingfisher Court has drawn upon international best practice to create a healing and therapeutic environment to support people on their recovery journey from mental illness. All rooms have en-suite facilities giving service users greater privacy and dignity. Service users will have support from an experienced clinical team and access to meaningful activities both indoor and outdoor.
Kingfisher Court has 86 bedrooms, on five separate wards that specialise inacute adult mental health care, mental health care for adults who may be frail or vulnerable and assessment and treatment for people with a learning disability.
At the time of construction its was the largest SIP single storey building in Europe covering 23000m2.
The Barn Partnership was appointed by the electrical contractor to provide the installation design for the full range of electrical services internally & externally.
A new Ambulance Make Ready Centre (MRC) was constructed in Polegate , East Sussex for the South East Coast Ambulance Service NHS.
Atthe MRC ambulances are prepared by a team of specialists who clean, restock and check the equipment on ambulances before the beginning and at the end of every shift.
To reduce the risk of vehicle breakdowns, on-site vehicle maintenance exerts are on-hand to undertake routine checks and maintenance.
This facility includes extensive training facilities, offices and changing rooms. The workshop area was fitted out with vehicle hoists, compressed air systems and dedicated vehicle extract systems. External services included bulk fuel storage, fuel dispensing facility, standby generator and vehicle washing.
Appointed by the contractor, The Barn Partnership provided the installation design for the M&E services with final inspection duties to ensure compliance with the brief.
The West London Clinic is a state-of-the-art hospital offering easy access to the highest level of care and diagnostic imaging. The Clinic works with private and NHS patients.
An existing outdated and tired looking hospital on the site in Brentford was completely refurbished into a state-of-the-art clinic with a wide range of new facilities and services.
These include a completely new medical diagnostic imaging suite, an endoscopy department and several new consulting rooms while the upgraded laminar flow operating theatre, recovery bedrooms and public areas to hugely enhance the patient experience and staff conditions.
The Barn Partnership was appointed by the client to provide a full Electrical Design & Consultancy Service to completely refurbish all the services within the building to the latest healthcare and building regulation standards.
The services comprised new Incoming LV splitter panel with generator changeover, IPS & UPS facilities, small power & earthing, LED lighting, door access, security, fire alarms and IT infrastructure.
Located in a new building on the outskirts if Winchester the clinic provides high quality private treatments in a state-of-the-art environment.
With a 3T MRI Scanner, CT scanner, x-ray facilities and two Operating Theatres the clinic provides the latest diagnostic facilities as well as treatments for eye & joint surgery, sports rehabilitation, fully equipped gym and a range of other services.
The building is all electric with heat pump heating & cooling and hot water throughout.

An existing large residential & retail block adjacent to Harrods in Knightsbridge had been the subject of a large refurbishment. Part of that block housed four listed building apartments with their own access.
These apartments were fully and carefully refurbished by the contractor to a high standard.

Working carefully with the architects the services included power, lighting, IT, heating & cooling & water services to carefully blend in with the architectural features.
An existing residential block in Tulse Hill, London was demolished to make way for an exciting development of nineteen apartments& duplex homes with below ground parking with three mews houses to the rear, with two penthouse apartments at rooftop level, all on a sloping site.
The bulk of the accommodation lies in an efficient cube shaped block positioned next to the street. A new raised ‘ground’ level was created enabling generous private terraces and a large landscaped communal space leading to 3 family sized mews houses and gardens to the rear.

Located on the Thames Riverside at Battersea, an existing shell was converted into apartments on several floors with larger apartments on the ground floor providing magnificent views over the Thames and London.

Berwick Street Soho is an office fit out for a production company covering 3,650sqft over three storeys located in the heart of Soho. The Barn Partnership integrated the M&E services into a bespoke interior that suited the production company client. It included open plan office areas, conference and meeting facilities and kitchen with breakout spaces that can also be used for meetings. All areas featured new ventilation & comfort cooling systems, lighting, power, IT systems & Security.
The Barn Partnership were appointed by the mechanical contractor to undertake the mechanical installation design and coordination with other services on the major refurbishment of Grade 2 listed Brighton Dome Corn Exchange and Studio Theatre.
Helicopters were used to get air handling units on the roof to avoid road closures and traffic delays. The transformation of the Corn Exchange included essential conservation work to previously hidden heritage features while increasing seating and creating an impressive new viewing gallery.
The design included a complete building management system, heating, air conditioning and water services.
Located in the London Borough of Camden, 30 Oval Road is located on the Grand Union Canal towpath close to Camden Lock. The site comprises a former Victorian industrial building sitting above a network of underground tunnels from which goods were transferred from the canal barges to railway carriages at ground level.
The building had been occupied for a number of years by The Jim Henson Organisation and was the centre of the animated film industry in London.
Planning and Conservation Area consent was granted to convert the building into 76 new flats on the upper floors. The ground level and the below ground level and the lower canal side level were converted into offices. The fit-out of the office space included an atrium lit by an inflated ETFE foil roof, and deep bore holes for geothermal heating and cooling.

The existing Post Office site in Peckham High Street was developed in the early 1960’s as a two-storey Post Office building with administrative offices above.
The Barn Partnership was appointed by the owner to provide a full M&E Consultancy Service to replace the existing building with a new ground floor Post Office and retail unit and a 5 storey hotel with 52 bedrooms including fit-out for Travelodge and a roof top plant room.
In order to keep the Post Office open throughout the development, the demolition had to take place in two phases to enable the new Post Office to be built before demolishing the old. The second half of the ground floor was then demolished and re-built, and the building then taken up from first floor onwards as a whole.
The Heating system in St Joseph’s church had fallen into serious disrepair with the existing gas boilers not functioning and obsolete.
The Barn Partnership were appointed by the Church to provide a full M&E Consultancy Design and Service and initially produced various replacement options using different energy technologies which were costed. The Church decided on the direct replacement of the existing gas boilers with new, smaller more efficient modules feeding new room units.
At the same time the antiquated electrical infrastructure and switchgear was replaced.

Dr Challoner’s Grammar School, founded in 1624 is a selective academy grammar school for boys, with a co-educational Sixth Form, in Amersham.

A recent major refurbishment included the extension and refurbishment of all of the Chemistry, Physics and Biology Labs. The Barn Partnership provided full M&E consultancy duties including the design of new heating & ventilation, water services, fume cupboards, gas supplies, switchgear upgrades, new lighting, small power, IT and fire alarms to provide the school with a state-of-the-art new facility.
Appointed by the main contractor, The Barn Partnership provided the installation design for the M&E services for a new refectory and fully electric kitchen area at Highgate School, London.
Built in the 1960’s the original brick building housing Highgate School’s dining hall and kitchen required a complete renovation and thoughtful and contemporary refurbishment.
The school’s aspirations for the project were to service not only the Highgate students but to cater public and private events as part of their long-term business goals.
With this in mind the interior and exterior refurbishment included an extension to the existing building, installation of a commercial kitchen and a new open covered veranda roof structure to the south front of the dining hall.
The exterior design utilised red cedar cladding to harmonise the new and old, seamlessly integrating the existing building with the new extension and new rooftop plant room and drastically improving the elevations, reviving an old building that would have otherwise been demolished.
A new rooftop plantroom housing large air handling units and new water supply, new switch room housing a new 800A electricity supply, and new lower ground floor boiler room were provided to provide a new preparation, cooking & servery service to the school for many years to come.
Appointed by the Architect, The Barn Partnership provided a detailed performance design & drawings for the M&E services for a 3-storey teaching block at John Hampden Grammar School, High Wycombe.
The new building forms a new main focal point for the school’s presence in the urban setting.
The accommodation includes 13 general classrooms with 2 specialist IT classrooms, WC accommodation, Staff areas & Multi-use space. Project value £3.6m.
The project saw the creation of a new sports development for Sir William Borlase’s Grammar School in Marlow, which includes a new sports hall and multi-use games area. The sports hall features a standing seam curved roof with decorative wall finishes.
Fit out works included changing rooms and dance studios, along with associated services, external works and landscaping.
New infrastructure works were necessary to bring upgraded has, water and electricity services into the building.
